Who is BUNGUBOX?
BUNGUBOX is a beloved Japanese stationery boutique known worldwide for its carefully curated writing instruments and exclusive ink creations. Based in Hamamatsu, they’ve built a devoted following for their imaginative color stories and commitment to the art of writing. Esterbrook and BUNGUBOX previously partnered on the celebrated Kachofugetsu series, blending Japanese design sensibility with Esterbrook’s American heritage. Our newest collaboration continues that story, bringing together two brands united by craftsmanship, creativity, and a love of writing.
About the Kachofugetsu Collection
In Japanese, Kachofugetsu(花鳥風月)—Flower, Bird, Wind, and Moon—is a timeless expression honoring the natural world and its seasonal rhythms. Each release in this series is inspired by one of these elements and designed in collaboration with Kaoru Yamagishi, founder of BUNGUBOX, one of Japan’s most beloved pen boutiques.
What is DiamondCast?
DiamondCast is a unique, handcrafted resin made in small batches in the United States. Infused with real diamond dust, it creates brilliant depth, shimmer, and luminosity in every piece. Each blend is custom-poured, so no two pens are ever exactly alike. Esterbrook has partnered with DiamondCast on several special editions, pairing this striking material with our classic designs to create writing instruments that are as distinctive as they are beautiful.

A Pen Like No Other
The new Kingfisher Edition pays tribute to the vibrant bird known for its jewel-like feathers and graceful flight along riversides.
Crafted in the U.S. from DiamondCast resin, the body of the pen features a stunning interplay of deep teal, warm copper, and soft black—mirroring the iridescent elegance of the kingfisher in motion. Gold-plated trim and a matching converter complete the design, along with a special gold-plated nib engraved with the Japanese character for “bird.”

Every Detail Matters
A signature element of Esterbrook x Bungubox collaborations is the painted converter, which turns a practical component into something worth celebrating. In our previous edition, this special detail offered an unexpected surprise for writers who appreciate design in every aspect of their pen.
For this edition, the converter once again takes center stage, this time featuring a bird motif. Subtle yet striking, it adds personality and charm to the inner workings of the pen, ensuring that even the act of filling with ink feels thoughtful and unique. It’s a continuation of a tradition that honors both function and artistry, giving collectors another reason to treasure this release.

Functionality Meets Originality
Every detail of this pen reflects the spirit of collaboration. From its smooth, reliable performance to the thoughtful touches that set it apart, it’s designed to be both a daily writer and a collectible. The pen features a specially engraved nib created exclusively for this partnership, a subtle yet meaningful detail that celebrates the theme of creativity and connection at the heart of the collaboration.
